Day 1 : Getting there

Before you start teaching in Vietnam, you’ll need to get TEFL qualified. If you aren’t already, we’ll train you with our 120 hour online TEFL course so you’re prepared for TEFL teaching. On arrival in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City (depending on your placement), you’ll be met by a member of staff at ELC (English Language Company), our trusted partner company who run the internship. They will accompany you to your accommodation, where you’ll be staying for the duration of orientation week.

Days 2 - 8 : Welcome to Vietnam!

Now it’s time to get to know the country that will be your home for the next 4.5 months. Your six day orientation will include a welcome meal at which you can get to know your fellow interns, and you’ll participate in sessions where you’ll learn about Vietnamese culture and history as well as increasing your classroom confidence with a 20 hour classroom TEFL course.

There will even be the chance to pick up some useful phrases, with language lessons to help you get by during your time in Vietnam. You’ll explore the local area with our expert guides and benefit from some insider tips on the best places to spend your spare time.

All meals and accommodation will be included during orientation.

Days 9 - 126 : Your teaching experience

Now it’s time to put your TEFL learning to the test! Your 4.5 month teaching experience gives you an amazing chance to get rewarding hands-on teaching experience in destinations across Vietnam. You’ll be teaching learners of all ages, from 4 to 18 years old (you will have the chance to express a preference in age group), so there is plenty of opportunity to make the most of your teaching experience and get stuck in to school life. You’ll receive a monthly living allowance of US$700 (£550) paid in local currency (Vietnamese Dong), and a $700 bonus on completion of your placement. Your living allowance will enable you to live comfortably during your internship.

Your accommodation during teaching will be provided – this will usually be a private room in a shared house or apartment, with your fellow interns near to your school. You’ll have basic kitchen and sanitary facilities. Meals aren’t provided during your internship, but all our partner schools have canteens where good, nutritious food can be bought at very reasonable prices.

You won’t be on your own during teaching; staff at ELC are well-trained to help you out if needs be. This 24/7 peace of mind means that you can focus on getting the most out of this once in a lifetime experience.

Weekends are yours, free to explore your local area. Why not head out into the city to explore bustling markets, check out fascinating historical sites, and sample some of the delicious, affordable food that’s available on every street corner.

Day 126 : After teaching

After your teaching experience, it’s up to you how to spend your time. Why not explore the rest of Vietnam? This is a country with lots of amazing and varied history, and each magical city has a whole host of varied attractions. Visit the historic Củ Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City, or take a peaceful boat cruise in majestic Halong Bay. You may also want to head over the border to neighbouring Cambodia or Laos to add some variety to your Southeast Asian experience. Alternatively, if you are interested in continuing to teach in Vietnam our in-country partners ELC can help organise this.
